Philanthropic Projects

OPERATION SCHOOL BELL® ...provides children in need with appropriate assistance to enhance self-esteem, to promote learning and to encourage regular school attendance.

Ruth Ann Montgomery of the ASSISTANCE LEAGUE® of Bakersfield (CA) saw many children in need. Her response was the genesis of OPERATION SCHOOL BELL, which became the national philanthropic project of NAL in 1998.

Locally, teachers from several Flagstaff elementary schools who partner with the OPERATION SCHOOL BELL program identify children in grades 1-6 who are in need of clothing. New clothing or JC Penney clothing vouchers are distributed to the children monthly.

K.I.D.S.

ALF and Alpine Auxiliary support the Safe Child Center at Flagstaff Medical Center. They work with law enforcement and child protective services to ensure that child victims are treated with respect and dignity throughout the investigation process. Safe Child is dedicated to reducing the stress that children experience as victims of crime.

ABC - A Birthday Celebration

Begun in 1984, members visit Infinia Health Care Center each month to organize a party for the residents. The party is complete with entertainment, decorations, refreshments, and gifts for all the residents celebrating birthdays that month.

Kiddie Closet

Started in 1986, this project provides clothing for young children and a complete layette for newborns. Mothers are referred from various agencies around Flagstaff. Layettes are made up of new clothing, diapers, a diaper bag and other items needed in the care of a new baby/and or young child.

Hug a Bear

Founded in 1989, this project provides teddy bears decked out in t-shirts with the ASSISTANCE LEAGUE logo printed on them, to children who are experiencing a traumatic circumstance. They are distributed to area fire departments, police departments, the hospital, and the local hospice agency.

Social Services Directory

ASSISTANCE LEAGUE publishes a directory of all the social service agencies located in Coconino County. The directories are available at no charge to the agencies as well as to all schools, churches and libraries. Other organizations and individuals are charged $10.00 per copy. Directories are available at the Cedar Closet Thrift Shop at 2919 N. West Street, Flagstaff.

ASSAULT SURVIVOR KITS®

Alpine Auxiliary assembles kits containing a new sweat suit, personal care items, a journal, and a book on surviving assault.  The kits are given to the Northern Arizona Center Against Sexual Assault where crisis intervention specialists care for victims of rape.  Victims of assault are often required to leave their clothing for evidence.  They also put together baskets for Sharon Manor.
